Biography
Philippe Entremont’s legendary career began at just eighteen with his triumphant Carnegie Hall debut, launching him onto the world stage as both pianist and conductor. For more than six decades, he has performed with leading orchestras across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, collaborating with the world’s greatest conductors and soloists.
As Music Director of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Entremont led over 1,000 concerts worldwide. He also directed the New Orleans Symphony, the Denver Symphony, and the Chamber Orchestra of the Netherlands, while founding the Santo Domingo Music Festival. His artistry has been celebrated at events such as the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and in countless tours around the globe.
Equally dedicated to education, Entremont has directed the American Conservatory of Fontainebleau, presided over the Maurice Ravel Académie, and served on juries of the most prestigious piano competitions. With one of the most extensive discographies in classical music, his recordings with Bernstein, Ormandy, Boulez, Ozawa, and others remain benchmarks.
Honored by France and Austria with their highest cultural awards, and author of the memoir Piano ma non troppo, Philippe Entremont stands as one of the great figures of 20th- and 21st-century classical music.
